Similarly, local media reported that a meeting with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad is planned and that this visit is believed to be the first of its kind since the war in Syria began in 2011.

The visit also comes two weeks after the Syrian diplomat met in Algiers. Similarly, local media reported that Algeria is playing an active role in Syria’s participation in the Arab Summit scheduled for next November in Algiers.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry had informed that Foreign Minister Faysal Mikdad was visiting Algeria on the 5th and 6th of this month, attended official celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of Algerian independence and met with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra and other officials.
The African country is also committed to integrating Syria into its position in the Arab League. For his part, military adviser to the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Mahmoud Khalifa, confirmed in February that Syria’s return to its seat in the League would be “very soon”.
