Kim Kardashian has been declared unmarried by Kanye West, Los Angeles Supreme Court Justice Steve Cochran ruled on Wednesday.
As a result of the decision, the reality star will no longer be called “Kim Kardashian West” – from now on she will use only her famous surname Kardashian.
The 41-year-old Kardashian appeared at the hearing via video conference from something that looked like a closet and looked “happy” despite the difficult topic.
During the hearing, the judge asked Kardashian several questions under oath.
Asked if he wanted to change his name back, the Kardashian alumnus said yes.
Kardashian also said yes when the judge asked if there was a breakup in the marriage.
“After the judge read the questions and told her she had regained her solitary status, Kim smiled,” an insider told us.
West’s new lawyer, Samantha Specter – who he hired at the last minute after firing his former lawyer less than 24 hours after the hearing – said her billionaire client had no “no problem” with Kardashian regaining her name. but is more concerned about his “assets and interest.”
Spector said on behalf of West that the 44-year-old rapper of “All of the Lights” wanted to “make sure his trust is protected.”
Kardashian’s lawyer, Laura Wasser, has objected to the freezing of her client’s trust, arguing that the reality TV mogul is using trust in his business. The judge sided with Kardashian’s team on the issue.
Spector said West’s main problems were protecting his retirement plan and that he still wanted Kardashian to relinquish his “marriage privilege”.
Should Kardashian remarry, it would give West permission to call her new husband to testify about her communication with the reality star if she has any problems in the future.
Later in the hearing, the judge asked when both sides would like to return to discuss other issues.
Spector asked for 120 days, saying he knew “there are many detention issues that need to be resolved.”
“I don’t think so, Your Honor,” Wasser said. “There have been no problems in the last year.”
The judge continued and gave 120 days requested by Spector. Both sides will return to hear the status conference on August 5th.
On the issue of waiver of marital privileges, Kardashian’s lawyer said earlier in court documents filed in February: “It is clear that Mr West’s aim here is to prevent or make it difficult for Ms. Kardashian to remarry. . ”The judge sided with Kardashian and rejected West’s request.
However, lawyers on both sides managed to agree to rewrite the terms of the retirement agreement.
Kardashian first filed for divorce in December 2021, after filing for divorce from the West in February 2021 after nearly seven years of marriage.
