Biden, whose forehead was marked with ashes for the Catholic holiday of Ash Wednesday, was answering a question about abortion policy in America when his wife interrupted him that it was time to leave.

“I don’t want to debate theology with you,” Biden said when Jill came to pick him up. “Well, anyway, I won’t judge other people,” he added.

Biden, a Catholic practitioner, described his stance on abortion as a “roadside” in the past, but he defended abortion policy during his term in the White House, keeping it in line with most Democrats.

Biden also said he received private ashes from a cardinal on Wednesday morning before his trip and prayed for the people of Ukraine. Ash Wednesday is a sacred day of duty in the Catholic Church and marks the beginning of Lent, a time of fasting and prayer leading to Easter.

“I was with the cardinal this morning.” He came and gave me ashes. “We both prayed for that, for the people of Ukraine,” Biden said.

He also said that he gave up sweets for Lent, including his favorite ice cream.

“All the cakes and you know me, I start with dessert. No ice cream, nothing, “he said.

The first couple was just five minutes behind schedule, leaving the White House for a day trip to Wisconsin, where the two will promote the benefits of a two-party infrastructure law.

The trip comes a day after President Biden’s address on the state of the Union.

They will speak at the Yellowjacket Union at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Biden will specifically mention the Blatnik Bridge, which stretches across St. Louis Bay to connect Superior with Duluth, Minnesota.

This bridge will receive part of the more than $ 5 billion for roads and bridges that Wisconsin receives under the infrastructure bill.

The bridge was built in 1961 and needs to be replaced in the next decade.

Wisconsin will also be a key state for Democrats in the 2022 by-elections and the 2024 presidential race.
