Fans spot a VERY strange detail in The Block’s cast announcement, as it features an unlikely pair in the lineup

The Block Tree Change producers delighted fans Tuesday when they announced the new cast for the hit Channel Nine show.

But there was one rather bizarre detail in the cast announcement – block crushers Elle Ferguson and her AFL star fiancé Joel Patfull were still in the new cast photo.

Elle, 36, and Joel, 37, who live in Bondi in Sydney, dramatically left The Block earlier this year.

Her exit from the Channel Nine renovation show will be a key storyline in the opening episodes of the new season, which will air in the coming weeks.

“Meet the new BLOCKheads making a tree change on The Block on Sunday 7th August on Channel Nine and 9Now,” reads The Block’s post.

Elle said she signed on for the show as she and Joel were being navigated through unrelenting NSW lockdowns at the height of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Lockdown has been tough and honestly, The Block got us through it,” Elle said.

“It was four nights a week and I think we really said, ‘We could do it and it would be fun.’

In April, Elle and her Footy star fiancé Joel pulled out of the final season of The Block following a family emergency

Elle and Joel knocked down tools in April – just 48 hours into filming – after Joel’s mother Trish broke her neck in a fall at her home in Adelaide.

The couple initially tried to stay on the show but left after they “couldn’t get a definitive answer” from the producers as to whether Joel could “come and go” from the construction site in the country of Victoria to visit his ailing mother in South Australia .

Despite a legitimate family emergency, The Block host Scott Cam slammed her decision to end the show, calling it “un-Australian” and “p**s poor”.

He told TV Tonight: “We had a 48 hour challenge to choose the house you get and they took off after 48 hours. It’s something that has never happened before.

“Forty-five thousand people applied to be on The Block and win life-changing money. These guys got on and after 48 hours just couldn’t keep up the pace.

“Which is a bit un-Australian to me! Try! It’s fucking poor.’

The Block: Tree Change will premiere on Sunday 7th August at 7pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
