John Lynch offers contract talk updates to Deebo Samuel and Nick Bosa

PALM BEACH, Fla. — 49ers Faithful can rest easy after John Lynch put an end to all trade speculation by Deebo Samuel on Monday.

The 49ers general manager spoke during the NFL Annual Convention and provided an update on contract talks regarding Samuel and Nick Bosa. Lynch vowed the two star players aren’t going anywhere.

“We had good communication with Tory [Dandy] representing Deebo, and Bryan Ayrault representing Nick,” Lynch said. “We have a plan for each of these guys. We’re going to keep these discussions private, but like I’ve said for a long time, these guys will be a part of us for a long, long time.

“They are fantastic players. They are the core of who we are and they are fabulous players, fabulous people and a huge part of who we are.”

Samuel will be entering the fourth and final season of his rookie contract, earning a base salary of $3.9 million. The All-Pro wide receiver has become a key player on the 49ers offense and deserves a big raise.

Tyreek Hill recently became the NFL’s highest-paid wide receiver when he signed a four-year, $120 million contract with the Miami Dolphins. Samuel could make some money in the same neighborhood.

Lynch didn’t seem concerned about how Samuel’s salary might affect the 49ers’ salary cap. In fact, new deals with both star players could positively impact the team’s status.

“It could lower the cap,” Lynch said. “There are a number of different directions we could go in, but we’re excited for the opportunity to have these guys with us for a long time.”

As a first-round pick, Bosa has a fifth-year option on his nearly $18 million contract, all of which would be a 2022 cap hit. With a long-term extension, the team could manipulate the edge-rusher’s salary to affect future years beyond 2022.

Regardless of how the 49ers revise Bosa and Samuel’s contracts, the general manager has been consistent, promising both would wear red and gold for the foreseeable future.

Could the 49ers make the contract math work even if quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo stays on the roster in 2022?

“Anything is possible,” said Lynch.
