Joachim Lux (64) will remain as director of the Thalia Theater in Hamburg until 2025. The supervisory board unanimously decided on Monday to extend the contract, which originally ran until 2024, by one year to 2025, the cultural authority announced. The former head playwright of the Burgtheater in Vienna has been director of the Thalia Theater since 2009. The contract was also extended at the express request of the ensemble’s representative.
“Joachim Lux created cultural highlights with his outstanding ensemble in the city and, mainly with international cooperation, made the stage a lively place for cultural exchange. Current productions and invitations to international theater meetings reinforce this path of success”, he said. Senator for Culture Carsten Brosda (SPD).
At the same time, the cultural authorities will also clarify the successor in the coming months with a selection committee and in close cooperation with the ensemble. “The ensemble’s unanimous vote touched me a lot at a time when theater management was often viewed critically,” said Lux, who actually wanted to stop in 2024.
