Katie Meyer, a Stanford footballer, was found dead on campus

Katie Meyer, the goalkeeper of Stanford’s women’s soccer team, died at a campus residence, the school said Wednesday.

“Katie was extremely committed to everything and everyone in her world,” Stanford Vice Vice President of Student Affairs Susie Brubaker-Cole and Athletic Director Bernard Muer said in a statement to the campus community on the university’s communications website. “Her friends describe her as a team player bigger than life in all her pursuits, from choosing an academic discipline, which she said changed ‘my view of the world and the very important challenges we must work together to overcome. “She brought passion to Cardinal’s women’s football program and to women’s sports in general. Fiercely competitive, Katie made two critical saves in penalties against North Carolina to help Stanford win her third NCAA Women’s Football Championship in 2019. Katie was a bright shining line for so many on the field and in our community.
