Vorarlberg logistics company Gebrüder Weiss is expanding its network in Turkey with a new location in Mersin, in the south of the country.
Activities in the port city of Mersin include air and sea freight services as well as intermodal land transport. The Mersin site – Gebrüder Weiss’ third location in Turkey after Istanbul and Izmir – is the transport hub for the Caucasus, Near and Middle East and Central Asia, the company said.
According to Wolfram Senger-Weiss, CEO of Gebrüder Weiss, Turkey is a growing market and, with its location on the Mediterranean Sea, is an important transshipment point for traffic between Asia and Europe. In the direction of Central Asia and China, the country also plays an important role as a gateway to the so-called “Middle Corridor” of the New Silk Road. “We have our own locations in most countries along the middle corridor,” says Senger-Weiss. On the client side, there is an increased demand for transport on this route.
