The Kansas City Chiefs were back at the Missouri Western State University practice field in St. Joseph, Missouri Wednesday morning conducting the first full practice of the team’s 2022 training camp.
The audience for Wednesday’s practice was limited to Chiefs season ticket holders. On Thursday, the team’s second full practice session will open to the general public. Click here to learn how to participate – and view the full training camp schedule.
Arrowhead Pride editor-in-chief Pete Sweeney was there and made observations that were posted on Twitter — beginning with realize it was a beautiful day to the training camp.
Low 70’s temps gave way to mid 70’s temps by the end of the workout. It got a little muggy, but I found it quite chilly by St. Joe/Chiefs training camp standards.

Unlike the rookie and quarterback practice sessions of the weekend Fans were present to enjoy the weather – and sometimes a close encounter with their favorite player.
The Chiefs said more than 3,000 season ticket holders attended the practice – adding some juice I didn’t feel over the weekend. Camp autographs made their long-awaited return. One fan was *particularly* excited to see #87 (from @HayleyLewisKSHB) https://t.co/AU4BpKAAL0

Though he could appear any day, Kansas City’s left tackle is apparently decided that Day 1 wasn’t going to be.
The sequel story to watch is actually “Orlando Brown Jr. Watch”. He missed the first team training session on Wednesday. On the field, Roderick Johnson earned first-team replays in the left tackle. Geron Christian worked with the second team on left tackle.

But so far, the Chiefs have not opted for it Let her left guard slide by to tackle
When asked if LG Joe Thuney will get a shot at left tackle (like he did in Week 17 against CIN in 2021), head coach Andy Reid said: “Probably not now”. Reid has mentioned that Tuney could be playing LT “in no time”. I wonder if Nick Allegretti would get the call to LG in this scenario.

there however, was a familiar face on the right side of the offensive line.
On the right tackle, Andrew Wylie took over all first-team reps while rookie Darian Kinnard worked with the second-team. We will continue to monitor this potential fight as the camp progresses. At this stage, Wylie is leaning towards keeping the role while Kinnard develops, but it’s very early on here.

Expectations for the two Kansas City cornerbacks seem to be making money now.
On defense, L’Jarius Sneed and Trent McDuffie were the top team’s base cornerbacks, with Sneed slipping in and rookie fourth-rounder Joshua Williams showing up at the nickel. D. Baker and L. Johnson appear to be next out. When Sneed had to miss a few games, D. Bootle came along.

A former Michigan Wolverine continue the backup for his fellow students.
DE Mike Danna was the pick over George Karlaftis when Frank Clark missed the start of practice. Elijah Lee was the third linebacker alongside Nick Bolton and Willie Gay Jr.

The team’s fourth-round cornerback continued to impress.
Brett Veach may have gotten another gem on Day 3 in Williams, who registered a pass separation in this AP friend’s 7-on-7 @HaroldRKuntz3 captured on tape. Harold’s video also shows the election of S. Justin Reid, which we’ll get to in a moment. https://t.co/QTiuueIp9l

Kansas City’s New Free Agent Security said he’s happy to observe the traits he likes in the team’s young defence.
Justin Reid outlined keys to good beginner play, keys he has seen in Williams and CB Trent McDuffie: “1, having a strong engine. 2, a yearning to learn, and 3, just not being afraid to make a mistake.”
Reid added the next step (after the next few days) is August 1st when the pads light up.
— Pete Sweeney (@pgsween) July 27, 2022
as it turned out Reid was having a pretty good day too.
Reid beat Patrick Mahomes in 7-on-7 by stepping in front of TE Jody Fortson, and he later had a PBU on Mahomes in 11-on-11 against TE Travis Kelce. A nice start into the new #bosses defensive leader.
— Pete Sweeney (@pgsween) July 27, 2022
Nevertheless he wanted to say he was just a guy doing his job.
Justin Reid on INT: “I mean, I just play defense. Coach Spags tells us what to do, we go out and do it. If you do that, buy into the program, you’re a good teammate. When you’re a good student of the game, good things usually happen.

At one point, the former Pittsburgh Steelers expanded had a nice run – although Juan Thornhill quickly pointed this out to Pete that it was actually McDuffie who was flipped in the play. what can we say Sometimes it’s hard to distinguish Juan’s defense from others. We regret the mistake.
Wednesday’s offensive star was wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, who caught three straight passes from Patrick Mahomes to start a 7-on-7 series. The loudest pop of the day was Mahomes to JuJu in 11-on-11. S Juan Thornhill was flipped over leaving JuJu wide open.

That’s what Smith-Schuster said after training Working offseason with his new quarterback paid off.
Smith-Schuster: “This offseason, [Patrick and I] just trained. Every single day. Pat stays in Dallas. Pat calls. ‘Hey, we’re throwing these days…’ A lot of guys did that this offseason. Just build that trust. Over time… we just build that chemistry.”

Some other wide receivers didn’t make that much noise On Wednesday…
Calmer first look for WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who tapped a ball on a rep in the red zone (but later made up for it with a catch in 11-on-11). WR Skyy Moore is still being dubbed on offense. I noticed that he took a wrong route in the last 7v7 game.
— Pete Sweeney (@pgsween) July 27, 2022
…although some substitutes had some nice moments in the sun.
Other offensive notes (1/2): TE Noah Gray had a touchdown during 7-on-7 work in the red zone, RB Derrick Gore had a moment he remembered me when he tackled LB Jack Cochrane the sidelines itched. WR Gary Jennings fended off a defender to make a tough early catch.
— Pete Sweeney (@pgsween) July 27, 2022
Former Clemson Wideout had a good game again.
Other Offensive Notes (2/2): WR Cornell Powell stayed with a 3-second bobble to put a ball over the middle in an 11-on-11. Welcome back WR Corey Coleman, who extended fully at right back in the end zone to catch a touchdown pass from QB Chad Henne at the end of practice.
— Pete Sweeney (@pgsween) July 27, 2022
And we finally got around to it Find out which players are included as a returnee – so far.
Coleman, Moore and McDuffie worked as returnees in the final stages of special teams. I wonder if special teams coordinator Dave Toub is holding some sort of tryout with KR’s Tyreek Hill and Byron Pringle gone and Mecole Hardman assuming he’s more offensively involved.

The next practice session begins Thursday at 9:15 am (Arrowhead Time).
