Hello everybody! How are you? In the late afternoon of Thursday 28 July (at 6:55 p.m.) the new moon rises in Leo, the second of this summer. And that’s what makes it particularly interesting, because summer is the season of blossoming and personal expression, exactly the same themes that the Leo archetype resonates with. And before we get to the heart of the discussion, let’s say right away that it is a new moon that carries an explicit invitation to the whole zodiac to rediscover courage, dignity, self-love and a desire to respond to everything that makes you who you are feel “in a cage”. And to rediscover the spontaneity, the game, the personal joy and everything that allows us to be at peace with ourselves.
You’ll find the details sign by sign at the end of the post, but first let’s try to focus on the general meaning of this new moon, which, as you know very well by now, marks the beginning of a new lunar cycle. It is like a ‘seed’: inherently ‘small’, almost invisible, but harboring huge potential for growth and development. In most cases, we will see the first visible manifestation of this embryo two weeks later, when the full moon rises that marks the culmination of the same cycle (in this case, the full moon in Aquarius of the next 12. August). Instead, we’ll be able to see more textured effects about six months later, when the full moon rises in Leo February 5th 2023 (my birthday!). So what we sow now will show itself more “formed” and defined just before mid-August and bear fruit in the middle of next winter.
From an astronomical point of view, the new moon is a conjunction between the sun and the moon, which are on the same degree of the zodiac, in this case the 5°38′ degree of Leo. So if we want it, it is a meeting, an appointment, where the moon acts as a “servant”, collecting a message from the sun to transmit to us in a language that we can understand, the language of emotions. That is why it is so important to listen to what “moves” us in the main phases of the moon (new moon and full moon), because very often what “calls” us wants to show a possible new path, what “repels”. we want, instead we are moving away from something that is no longer for us.
At the same time, this function of the servant and interpreter of the moon also works in the opposite direction, in the sense that it is the moon that picks up our purpose, our intention and delivers it to the cosmos. And since the universe pays much more attention to actions than words, the best way to take advantage of the new moon is to roll up your sleeves and start something new. A lot, of course, depends on the nature of the sign the new moon falls in, but that “futuristic” nature is somewhat inherent in all new moons, and it’s worth taking advantage of. If something has been on your mind for a while (starting a specific project, embarking on a specific discourse), focus on the full moon days (Thursday 28th and Friday 29th) because they have particularly fertile ground.
In many cases, then, it is the new moon itself that opens files within us (ideas, reflections, deliberations, issues to confront) that are always related to the sign that hosts the new moon. In this case we are talking about a new moon in Leo, a sign that expresses the vocation to protagonism that is present in each of us, albeit to different degrees. Every time we expose ourselves, that we put our face on it, that we express our creativity spontaneously (regardless of the judgment of others), it is precisely the archetype of the lion that is present within us that we draw on.
It is our most heroic side, manifested through pride, dignity, the desire to be unique and to increase our “suffered uniqueness” (to quote Mazzantini). Not surprisingly, the Leo archetype in the chessboard of the zodiac corresponds to the expression where es-primere (the exact opposite of re-primere) means simply letting your inner sun shine, letting it illuminate everything around you. Let his “rays” become ideas, projects and activities. Therefore, the new moon in Leo awakens in us a very strong need for expression, which at the same time also means looking at everything that leads us to “repress” with greater anger. (go on)
