The actor has cast himself in Darren Aronofsky’s new movie Mom!
The internet was shocked when yesterday the 27th the first official picture of The whaleDarren Aronofsky’s new film, produced by A24 and that brings Brendan Fraser as a morbidly obese man trying to bond with his daughter, played by Sadie Sink from Stranger Things.
The image was officially released by A24 in your chirp, and announced the film will premiere at the 79th Venice Film Festival alongside Ti West’s Pearl and Joanna Hogg’s The Eternal Daughter. Check out the first image of Brendan Fraser in the film below:
What is the story of The Whale?
The whale is a psychodrama directed by Darren Aronofsky (Mother!, Black Swan) and written by Samuel D. Hunter (Baskets), the story is based on a play of the same name and stars Brendan Fraser, Sadie Sink, Hong Chau, Samantha Morton and Ty Simpkins.
The official synopsis of the film reads:
“A 500pound, middleaged teacher named Charlie is trying to reconnect with his 17yearold daughter. The two grew apart after Charlie left his family for a gay lover who eventually died. Charlie then started eating to deal with the pain and guilt he was feeling.”
Brendan Fraser’s transformation
After seeing the picture, many may be shocked to believe it Brendan Fraser has gained all the weight for the role, but he uses several prostheses and looser clothing in the film. According to Newsweek, Fraser really won another weight However, for the role, the makeup department managed to create the illusion and turn him into a severely obese man.
In an interview with Unilad last year, he said:
“The wardrobe and clothes were large, bohemian and uncomfortable. This is certainly the last step I have taken thus far and without being humble…I know it will leave a lasting impression.”
Fraser recently starred opposite Doom Patrol in Steven Soderbergh’s Not a False Move. However, “The Whale” marks his first time in a film since 2013, when he starred in “The Hunt,” directed by Damian Lee.
When is the movie coming out?
The whale will have its world premiere at the 79th Venice International Film Festival, which runs from August 31st to September 10th this year. The festival screens several highly anticipated films from acclaimed directors such as Alejandro González Iñárritu, Andrew Dominik, Luca Guadagnino, Joanna Hogg and Noah Baumbach.
However, the film has no offtrack release date yet, but will be distributed by A24, same production company for films like The Witch, Midsommar and Everything Everywhere at the Same Time. In Brazil, the production company’s films always have a good delay before hitting theaters, so it may be a while before we know when and if the feature film will premiere here.
