The Spanish consulate in Cuba handles exceptional cases of Schengen visas

The Spanish consulate announced this Tuesday that the “non-essential travel restrictions from third countries to the European Union” have been extended.

This means that entry restrictions will remain in place until April 30, as per the latest amendment to Regulation INT/657/2020.

For example, according to the information in the document, the Council Recommendation “has not changed, it is appropriate to extend its effects for a further month, without prejudice to the possibility of amending any of its articles before that period if circumstances change.”

In the case of the Spanish consulate, they have indicated on previous occasions that as long as this arrangement is maintained, they will not process visas from tourist, business, family visits, etc.

However, the diplomatic headquarters provides information on its website about the applicable exceptional procedure for apply for a Schengen residency visa in Cuba, while travel restrictions apply.

Some of the essential elements are the presentation of Documents proving the reason for the trip and the conditions of the staythe availability of sufficient economic means and that “the applicant’s intention to leave the Schengen area before the visa expires” is demonstrated.

Currently, the reasons for traveling to Spain with this type of visa include: actors in the cultural sector, business trips to Spain, medical treatment, robbery, theft or loss of residence in Spain and missions by official bodies.

As for the insurance, the Spanish consulate in Havana points out that it must “cover repatriation costs for medical reasons or in the event of death, as well as emergency medical care or emergency hospital care, throughout the period of stay and throughout the Schengen area.

Regarding the visa fee, you should know that children under the age of 6 are exempt from paying the consular fee; between 6 and 12 years they have to pay 1130 CUP. The rest of the applicants have to “pay the fixed consular feei.e. 2255 CUP”.

The diplomatic headquarters reiterated that “visas for short-term stays (tourism, family visits) will not be issued”.
