The official Cuban press has once again carried out a cynical exercise of analysis the current migration movement and attribute it to the “right to migrate” that Cubans freely exercise, not because they live in material or spiritual need, but because they feel “that they do not have enough”.
An article published this Tuesday in Cubadebate, entitled “Metaphor of the island in flight and other (anti-)Cuban myths”, sought to clarify the causes of the current Cuban migration crisis and to criticize those who “politicize” this phenomenon “. threw tens of thousands of Cubans into the sea, into the jungle and into the hands of human traffickers last year.
“The matter is seen as an indicator of the failure of the socialist model; as a defeat of society from which people are likely to escape or go into exile. I wonder when socialism was installed in Haiti, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala or Mexico, the main emitters of migrant souls to the US,” noted the author of the article cynically, hiding behind the pseudonym José David País Santamaría.
By comparing the causes of Cuban migration with those of these countries, the author tries to hide the rationale behind the economic motives that drive thousands of Cubans, knowing that their poverty or the obstacles to their prosperity are not due to the US embargo but to the “blockade” of the productive forces that the Cuban regime maintains as a mechanism in its strategy to maintain its power.
“We have the right to migrate and we are using it. It is not right to justify the decision with a curse on the country. Especially when the person who decides to emigrate is not escaping a potentially deadly conflict; of unsafe streets taken over by gangs; of extreme misery and hunger; post war; lack of medical care; lack of right to study or work; and so many and so on,” mused the regime spokesman.
The perpetrator of the smear, who pushed to the limit official hypocrisy demanding the free flow of remittances from those Cubans who for decades were considered “scum” and “worms,” declared that “emigration is part of the nation.”
“It has to be bold to say that the efforts of Cubans abroad have been crucial in supporting thousands of families here, and that this contribution to the island’s economy is and will continue to be immense,” predicted the issue, according to País’ false profile Santamaría, defending the future existence of an economic model dependent on remittances rather than creating wealth.
However, the article encounters contradictions: If the exodus of Cubans responds to the free exercise of the “right to migrate,” why blame “blockades and aggression” for the onslaught of young people, broken families, and the pain of separation?
“Leaving young people is part of the war against the island,” said the Cubadebate columnist, not realizing that a few lines later he glossed over this impulse as part of the free and friendly environment the regime created for the exercise of ” Right” encourages to migrate”. “That the real culprits be identified,” he demanded.
“Cubadebate insists on continuing to look for external culprits and lacks the courage to face the internal phenomena that are driving massive brain drain in these times. This article is hypocrisy at the very least,” said one of the outraged readers in the comments.
“No more justifying and no further dwelling on the matter. People are migrating from here because they have no future and will not have one. Because what is said to the good Cuban is a disaster for the country. Cubans prefer to go to Haiti, Greenland, Iraq, Syria, Ukraine. Before you stay here, let’s be clear gentlemen: this model or system hasn’t worked, isn’t working and won’t work,” he told Another
“There is only one culprit of ‘metaphor’. The exodus is and will be inevitable because the causes are bad government, lack of individual liberties and terrible economy. Every time they do something, it’s worse than the last and they’d rather live on charity than unleash productive forces and let people do, create, produce. The cause is the constant lying, the permanent mockery of a people that is starving and has all sorts of deficiencies, while its rulers live bourgeois lives.
“The article is completely removed from the current situation in Cuba. The objective reality and the current causes of emigration are not addressed. More than 70% of the population have lost faith because there is no light at the end of the road. In economic model, that doesn’t work, and every time they invent it, it shows no results, because Cubans just want to live without so much misery”.
“The article is ridiculous from start to finish, nothing it says is true; it is a kick to make believe that we are facing a normal and common migration process as in any country; and it’s not like that, it’s a rush, people don’t need any longer to live on here, admit it, your writing makes you laugh”.
“You have to say thank you every day that Cuba has no land borders because 4 cats would stay.” “Right now, the Cuban people’s only options are to flee, go to jail, or live in human humiliation while their leaders’ bellies grow more and more every day, even the hot ones are getting fat,” others said .
“The failure of the system is an undeniable reality, reality says it all. I am old and have had the experience of seeing what they call ‘reordering’ on many occasions. At one point I believed it was possible to follow this path and move forward, and then I saw a chosen leadership and their unconditional support move forward. It was all a scam. Thank god I saw it; others die not knowing that they have always been deceived,” another Cuban expressed irritation at the wasted cynicism in the media article official.
