Bridgerton Season 2 Has Record Opening Weekend For Netflix –

Bridgerton season two is shaping up to be as big a hit on Netflix as its predecessor.

The streamer’s weekly top 10 list for March 21-27 reveals that the Regency-era romance had a huge first weekend. In the three days following its March 25 premiere, Bridgerton season two amassed 193 million hours of watch time worldwide – the highest of any English-language Netflix series in its first three days. The second season of reached the top 10 in 92 of the 93 countries where Netflix tracks the rankings (Japan was the only outlier).

It’s also the second-highest total for any Netflix series in its opening weekend. Only part five of Spain’s Money Heist (201.9 million hours from September 3-5, 2021) produced greater results in the first three days, according to Netflix’s internal measurements.

Bridgerton executive producer Shonda Rhimes has three shows in the top five from March 21-27. Bridgerton’s first season moved back into the top 10, taking third place with around 32.3 million viewer hours. The limited series Inventing Anna by Rhimes also marked its seventh week on the list, ranking fifth with 29 million hours.

Netflix’s internal rankings have typically been supported by independent measurements from Nielsen (which lags behind the streamer’s posts by a few weeks). Recent rankings from Nielsen, for example, have shown that the show Inventing Anna got off to a strong start, more than doubling its viewership in its first full week and declining slightly in week three.

The second season of Bridgerton also seems to be in the Netflix top 10 of all time for English-language series with its predecessor and Inventing Anna. The company uses the first 28 days of a show to determine placement on this list, and Bridgerton season one currently ranks first with 625.49 million hours of viewing time over that period. Inventing Anna is fourth with 511.92 million hours.

With the big launch, Bridgerton season 2 is poised to climb into the all-time top 10 in the coming weeks. Its opening weekend is already 42 percent of the way to the current 10th ranking, season two of You (457.37 million hours over 28 days). Given that Netflix shows tend to grow significantly in the first full week after a Friday premiere, Bridgerton is on track to surpass the 400 million hour display for its second season through Sunday.

Squid Game remains the runaway #1 for all Netflix series, regardless of language, having watched a staggering 1.65 billion hours worldwide in its first 28 days. Red Notice (364 million hours) is the service’s most watched film.
