Ukrainian security services claimed Monday, August 8, to have foiled two assassination attempts on Defense Minister Oleksiï Reznikov and the head of Ukraine’s military intelligence service, Kyrylo Boudanov. The SBU (Security Service of Ukraine) also claimed to have neutralized several of its alleged organizers.
On its Telegram account, the SBU said it had “arrested Russian intelligence assassins who planned the assassinations of Defense Minister Oleksiï Reznikov and the head of military intelligence Kyrylo Boudanov.” He broadcast video of these arrests, in which we see an armed group knocking out and handcuffing two plainclothes men who are heading towards a car.
The arrest of these two men, one of whom arrived in Ukraine from Russia via Belarus, took place in Kovel, in north-western Ukrainian territory. According to the SBU, those arrested were preparing “the physical liquidation” of these two senior Ukrainian defense officials, as well as a “well-known Ukrainian activist,” whose name he does not name.
Each of those murders was to be awarded between $100,000 and $150,000, the SBU claimed.
