The one who was already captain of the Belle Province organization is honored during a game at Stade Saputo against the New England Revolution. The Massachusetts club is the last team Bernier faced during his career, on October 22, 2017 he scored his 20th and last goal of the regular season for the Montreal team.
“I have known Patrice for more than 25 years and have had the privilege of playing with him at the amateur, varsity and professional levels on Impact and on the national team,” said Gabriel Gervais, CF Montreal President and CEO. He gave a lot to football and the community, both at the provincial and federal levels. He fully deserves this honor. I’m proud that one of us, a former captain who shaped the club’s history, has been included in the list of greats to be immortalized in the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame.
He was a member of CF Montreal (formerly Impact) when the team made the leap to Major League Soccer (MLS) in 2012. Bernier finished that first season as the team’s top scorer with nine goals. He finished his career on the Garber Tour playing 159 total games, including eight in the playoffs, recording 15 goals and 28 assists. He was also awarded the captain’s armband in 2014, a title he held until his retirement.
Bernier also contributed to his team’s success in the CONCACAF Champions League, helping the Montreal club reach the final in 2015.
The man, now 42, was not only inducted into the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame, but was also inducted into the Quebec Soccer Hall of Fame in 2017. He now holds a CF Montreal Matches position on TVA Sports.
