China shortens lockdown period for airlines with Covid 19 cases

Beijing, Aug. 7 (Prensa Latina) China today announced a reduction in the suspension time for airlines carrying passengers with Covid-19 on international flights, in line with its strategy to revitalize the sector seriously affected by hygiene measures.

The National Civil Aviation Authority cut the ban on companies with five patients on a trip from two to one week, and also reduced it from four to two weeks if they exceed that number of infected people.

The Asian giant closed its borders in March 2020 and has since significantly reduced the number of international flights as part of the mechanism to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.

Official statistics say he regularly traveled to 54 nations during that time, but in recent weeks he has taken steps to make health measures more flexible and benefit the movement of passengers around the world.

Civil aviation is among the sectors hardest hit by the recurrent outbreaks of the disease and the epidemiological struggle in China, where the strategy includes massive lockdowns, travel restrictions and tight controls on mobility.

Another blow was the accident of a China Eastern Airlines plane last March, killing a total of 132 and later the anomaly reported in a Tibet Airlines device that left the runway, caught fire and injured 36.

Major airlines Air China, China Eastern and China Southern closed the first half of 2022 with losses of 50 billion yuan (more than $7 billion) due to the impact of Covid-19, higher fuel prices and the devaluation of the local currency from the US dollar.

In mid-May, the government launched a 5 billion yuan ($735 million) plan to revitalize the industry, cover its basic expenses, ensure the safety of every flight, restore growth expectations and maintain staff training.

In addition, China is currently in negotiations with several countries to increase passenger flights, and the authorities stressed the usefulness of this measure to meet the needs of people’s exchanges, the national economy and the sustainable development of the sector.
