Russia regards any possible military deployment of US or NATO forces in Central Asian countries as “unacceptable”.This was said by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Thursday during the plenary session of the meeting of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries, which was attended by China, Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

“As we have already said, we consider unacceptable the use of any US and NATO military infrastructure and Afghans serving them on the territory of neighboring states, mainly in Central Asia,” Lavrov said.

According to the Russian government “Such intentions are contrary to the interests of our states in security matters and contrary to the obligations arising from the documents of the charter of the organization, the Collective Security Treaty.”summed up the Chancellor.

During his speech, Lavrov demanded that appeals to take in Afghan refugees in neighboring countries should be treated “with great caution” and the “possible negative consequences that entail high risks” should be weighed before making a decision. “Although these approaches are presented under noble humanitarian slogans, greater vigilance is not superfluous,” concluded the Russian minister.
