HEFEI, March 30 (Xinhua). Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Wednesday.

Qureshi is in Tunxi, east China’s Anhui Province, to attend the third meeting of foreign ministers of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries.

Facing the complex and volatile international and regional situation, the China-Pakistan all-weather strategic cooperation partnership has stood the test and shown strong vitality, which has become an important factor in maintaining peace and stability in the region, he said.

No matter how the international situation changes, China will continue to view and promote Sino-Pakistani relations from a long-term and strategic perspective, support Pakistan in safeguarding its national sovereignty, territorial integrity and national dignity, and be the most reliable and strong partner support from Pakistan, Wang added.

Noting that Pakistan and China have supported each other through thick and thin and have never let each other down, Qureshi said Pakistan stands ready to maintain healthy communications with China and both nations would strongly support each other to safeguard their core interests .

The two sides exchanged views on deepening mutually beneficial cooperation and agreed to further promote the high-quality development of the China-Pakistan economic corridor.

Qureshi said Pakistan will do its utmost to ensure the safety of Chinese institutions and personnel in Pakistan.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine issue.

Qureshi added that Pakistan and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) are deeply concerned by the multiple challenges posed by the spread of the crisis to developing countries and they advocate respect for international law and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter Settlement of disputes through diplomatic channels.

Pakistan stands ready to work with China to take a common position and raise a unified voice, Qureshi added.

China and Pakistan, like other developing countries, are sticking to the overall direction of dialogue, negotiations and restoring peace, Wang said.

“Under the current circumstances, we must pay special attention to the spillover effects of the Ukraine crisis,” he said. “We must not allow the Cold War mentality to resurface in Asia. We must not allow the bloc confrontation in Asia to repeat itself. We must not allow small and medium-sized countries in the region to become tools or even victims of the rivalry between large countries.

China stands ready to work with Pakistan and neighboring countries to play a constructive role in promoting regional and global peace and stability, he said.
