The former UK Treasury Secretary, who aspires to be Prime Minister, has started building an expensive swimming pool at his home amid drought and inflation.
A potential replacement for Boris Johnson at the head of the British government, Rishi Sunak surprises the English with a not political but a very personal project after he leaves Downing Street. Privately, the former finance minister is working on the construction of a swimming pool which is estimated to cost 473,000 euros, The Independent reported on Friday. With his wife Akshata Murty, they received approval last year to build a sports complex at their Richmond mansion, a €1.77million residence. The Hambleton District Planning Committee gave the green light for the building last August, despite some concerns that the appearance of this 19th-century vicarage might be altered.
The authorization granted applies, among other things, to the construction of a sports hall, a tennis court and said swimming pool, all three on the edge of agricultural land. According to the building permit, the swimming pool should be twelve by five meters in size. It will be attached to the gym, a room with four showers and another room reserved for storing equipment. Access to a terrace and hot tub will be possible from the same building, says The Independent.
