Russia withdraws troops from the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions

Apr 1 – Russia withdraws part of its troops from the northern regions Ukraine of Kyiv and Chernihiv, the governors of the two regions said on Friday.

“We are watching the movement of several columns of joint (Russian) vehicles”wrote the governor of the region KyivOleksandr Pavlyuk, in the messaging application Telegram.

Pavlyuk indicated that some of the troops were on their way to the border BelarusRussia’s Allied Country.

He added that Russian forces had abandoned the town of Hostomel, which is next to a major airport, but were digging in in the town of Bucha. Reuters could not verify the information.

The governor of ChernihivFor his part, Viacheslav Chaus said that some Russian troops had left, but certain ranks remained in their region.

“Air and missile attacks are (still) possible in the region, nobody rules that out”he said in a speech via video.

The Russian government announced this during the negotiations on Tuesday would reduce operations in the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions.

But, Fighting had continued in both regions and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg commented that Russian forces would not withdraw but would regroup.
