We missed a game, but I never think it’s the manager’s fault to lose a game, regardless of whether it was the manager who made a move.
Whatever move he made, whether it was a pitching change, a pinch shot, a defensive substitution, a reorganization of the lineup, a player moving up or down the lineup, a switch from LF to RF, it’s up to the players to execute them.
Players made it into MLB because they’re the 1% of the 1% in their respective fields. They should be able to throw a strike, throw for 1st, bat for 2nd or 7th, play RF and LF when prompted.
I remember Semien threw away a game first at the end of summer 9th
Teo runs late in a game that could have ended in a tie
Late Game of Miscues by Palacios I think early on
Bullpen blows a few games early, not just Chatwood
We had Jake Lamb starting at 3B for over a week!!!
The Jays missed the playoffs by a game wasn’t due to Montoya and his clumsy decision making.
He didn’t ask Semien to tip the ball to Vlad. He didn’t sign Chatwood, he MUST use the players given to him and hope they fulfill their abilities.
The manager simply fills out line-up cards and usually goes to the best available substitute when one is needed (pitcher batter or feilder), and 99% of the time it’s an obvious choice that any random Joe who has even a mediocre baseball sharp has, can meet. Until that point when injuries and fatigue mean the 13th BP guy will eventually have to be used in a tight game or a kid you didn’t really want in a tight game gets their first MLB appearance
Is it Atkins fault that Chatwood was on the team? Yes, but given what we know about how difficult it is to attract players north of the border, did he really have a choice?
Shapiro and Atkins play behind the 8ball
Montoya plays behind the 8ball.
They do a great job with what they have. They should be applauded for the work they have done after what they have inherited
Any mistake at this point falls on the players. The way they are currently constructed they have just as good a chance as the other big boys of making a run.
It’s not rocket science, see Ball Hit Ball. See ball field ball, throw ball accurately, catch ball thrown to you. Play to your potential or exceed it and ANYONE could lead the Jays to a WS.
Are you telling me that Cito was some kind of baseball scholar?
