Westjet airline recently reported that it will resume 9 routes to Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America next winter. Service to these destinations was suspended two years ago. John Weatherill, WestJet’s executive vice president and chief commercial officer, said the resumption of these routes is a step forward in restoring the network. “We want to solidify WestJet as the reliable, friendly and affordable airline that we are,” said the specialist.
The manager himself acknowledged that the past three winters have messed up passengers’ travel plans. “We look forward to reconnecting Canadians with some of the warm travel destinations they’ve missed the most,” Weatherill said.
What novelties does WestJet propose for the upcoming boreal winter?
First and foremost, the main novelty long-awaited by WestJet customers is the resumption of 9 international routes. Meanwhile, 45% of leisure goals are increased compared to last year.
Another notable increase will come in flights from Central/Eastern Canada by 50% compared to 2021. Operations from western Canada will increase by 55% over last year.
There is also a 65 percent increase in flights from Winnipeg compared to the previous period mentioned above. As if that weren’t enough, WestJet will increase its operations from Calgary by 30% compared to 2021.
Finally, Toronto flights will increase by 10% over those registered last year.
For the winter phase, WestJet will offer 79,382 seats each week. This can be stated in 449 flight operations from Canada to Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America.
The airline will have increased capacity compared to the same period prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Cuba will also benefit as it will resume the Calgary-Varadero route on a weekly basis starting November 8th.
