Armando Babaioff’s mother panicked at fake news See more cases

Saturday, August 13 were those who lived through moments of tension Armando Babaioff. In an untruthful appeal, TV Foco’s website published “Armando Babaioff suffers a serious accident and a surgeon confirms it,” and later deleted the article, panicking the actor’s family. In particular, his 76yearold mother, who felt ill and tried by all means to get in touch with her son.

The actor expressed all his anger on his social networks, denying the event:

“In a nice one. This is not done here. Someone in my family saw this and called my mother who tried to call me but couldn’t because I was filming. You panicked a 76 year old lady. That doesn’t work man… That’s irresponsible, you fuckers. This is disgusting,” Armando wrote.

The news, quoted by the site in question, was when the actor lost a tooth after an accident in a play.

This kind of sensationalism, turn and move is featured in Google’s Discover, one of the tools that generates the most clicks for news sites.

IT’S NOT THE FIRST TIME

This isn’t the first time the above site has caused issues with fake news. In one of the comments on Babaioff’s page, a reader recalled the case when a message was published about Isis Valverde breastfeeding her son.
In the title, TV Foco called it “Ísis Valverde shows off her breasts in an intimate photo and announces ‘today it'”. It was just a beautiful moment of a mother breastfeeding her child and they made the picture very sexualized.

Pablo Vittar

Another quoted was Pabllo Vittar. In 2021, the singer was blasted on the website with the socalled “Pabllo Vittar has an accident at a party, loses part of his body and leaves the place bleeding: ‘It hurt a lot'”. In fact, it was a nail broken by the singer.

Marilia Mendonca

The late and deceased singer Marília Mendonça was also targeted by the site, which claimed she “announced an illness that left fans distressed and health conditions worrying”. At the time, Marília wrote: “There was no repair here. I’m waiting… for me and all Brazil damaged by your sensationalism…” the singer wrote.

Giovanna Antonelli

Giovanna Antonelli was also a victim of fake news on the site. The article entitled “Thirst for Life, Giovanna Antonelli Recounts an Experience with the Devil, Goes to the Bottom of the Well and Opens Wide: Iron Hands”. The actress filed an outofcourt settlement with celebrity website TV Foco. The actress’ lawyer condemned the story as “creating lewd headlines to get clicks.”

Maisa Silva

Actress Maisa Silva was also called a fake, where, among other things, they claimed that the girl was pregnant, her boyfriend at the time was gay. She posted a message when the famous site’s cancellation was reported.

OUR MOMENT @MariliaMReal

Finally, after being told that I’m pregnant, that I’ve suffered, that my boyfriend “turned gay” among other things, lying not only about me but about several other artists… https://t.co/zp9x5ljh7K— +a ( @maisa) December 12, 2019

Gugu Liberato

In 2019, another clickbait practice when they announced, “Roberto Cabrini makes a stunning discovery in the death of Gugu and is threatened by the family: ‘The truth will come out'”. Gugu Liberato’s adviser, Esther Rocha, sent several audios to TV Foco and reported that no one from the website had contacted her to find out the family’s position.

DAMAGE

The damage not only affects the famous, but also the serious journalism, which is ultimately discredited by slanderous, sensational and clickgenerating news. It’s embarrassing to see fellow professionals following the fake news line to profit from clicks.

This whole fake news ploy makes it hard for people to dive into verified stories, big interviews with verified content on digital platforms that rely on Google advertising to stay on the air.

In April of this year, Carta Capital published an article about the excitement that fake news makes, captures clicks for those who don’t check or creates sensational titles, and much more.

“Google has invested a lot of money and energy in fighting Law 2630/2020 known as the Fake News Act. Ironically, the tech giant’s stance in the news over the past few years helps explain major media groups’ support for the measure, which is generally bad and risky.
