Tears and shock in Quartu and all of southern Sardinia for the sudden death of Giorgio Zara. Underwater instructor, cave diver and documentary filmmaker has been involved in nature photography and video for over 40 years. He was sixty-seven years old. He has traveled the world, Zara, always starting from his homeland in the Flumini di Quartu area: he has done reports in Africa, Asia and South America: Seychelles, Egypt, South Africa, Corsica, Cambodia, Namibia, India, Maldives, Uganda, Morocco, Mongolia, Peru, Botswana, Indonesia, always with his wife, Silvia Crippa, environmental and sustainability educator, diving guide and scientific popularizer. A defender of nature and the sea in particular, Giorgio Zara. He was also one of the founders of the Diving Center Cagliari.
Many are clamoring for it on social media. Manuela Vadilonga, 118 rescuer from Cagliari, remembers Giorgio like this: “I did my first dives as a dive guide with you. I have so many great memories. You will always be number one. Every time I’m down there I’ll think of you. Hello Giorgio”. Lino Cozzuto, President of the Environmentalists of Sardinia, says through tears at the loss of a brother: “Giorgio’s death is a bolt from the blue, I never thought to receive this sad news that leaves me with an immense emptiness .Giorgio was someone like us, someone who loved life, loved nature and knew how to be loved.He also made great documentaries and services for the birth of the caretta caretta turtle: we will miss him dearly.
