Cuba and Barbados Reaffirm Will to Strengthen Cooperation

The Prime Ministers of Barbados, Mia Mottley, and Cuba, Manuel Marrero, today reaffirmed their will to further strengthen the historic ties of cooperation between the two nations.

Havana, August 16 (ACN) The Prime Ministers of Barbados, Mia Mottley and Cuba, Manuel Marrerotoday ratified the will of to further strengthen the historic ties of cooperation between the two nations.

Meeting in the Commonwealth of the Bahamas as part of the first regional meeting of the heads of government of the Caribbean Community (Caricom), both parties agreed to expand joint actions to improve their countries’ economies.

During the exchange, Mottley appreciated Cuba’s help in confronting the Covid-19 pandemicso the comment of the Cuban head of government on his Twitter account.

“Caribbean countries must continue to help each other and speak with one voice,” he added.


This Tuesday, Marrero also spoke to the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit, to whom he reiterated his interest in promoting the realization of bilateral cooperation projects and strengthening ties of friendship, according to a cable from the Prensa Latina news agency dated in Nassau.


The Prime Minister of the largest of the Antilles assured that Dominica can count on Cuba, a country that does not offer what it has left but shares what it has.

During the day he also spoke to the Bahamian Minister of Education, Glenys Hanna-Martin, who expressed her gratitude for Havana’s cooperation in this area.

For his part, Marrero reiterated that his country is ready to continue developing it.

The Cuban Prime Minister also intervened in the debate rooms promoted by Caricom’s first regional meeting of Heads of Government ahead of the 27th United Nations Conference on Climate Change.

Especially in the forum on mitigation, adaptation and support, the head of government reaffirmed his country’s will to spare no effort in the fight against the consequences of climate change.

We will support the Caribbean countries specifically on this issue and on any other issues they need, Marrero said.

He added that the current climate crisis requires much more ambitious commitments from all states, first and foremost from developed countries, which must take the leadership appropriate to their historical responsibilities in destroying the environment.
