On Thursday morning, the Kansas City chiefs conducted their 17th (and final) full practice of the 2022 training camp at their practice field at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Wide receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) and Mecole Hardman (groin), defensive tackle Chris Jones (back), tight end Blake Bell (hip flexor) and tackle Lucas Niang (knee) all missed the last day of training camp. After missing practice Wednesday, running back Jerick McKinnon (hamstring) and long snapper James Winchester (personal) were back on the field.
With training camp behind them, the Chiefs have Friday off. The team’s second preparatory game is scheduled for Saturday. It will face off against the Washington Commanders at Arrowhead Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. (Arrowhead Time). Practice (then at the team’s practice facility at the Truman Sports Complex) will resume on Monday.
Pete Sweeney, editor-in-chief of Arrowhead Pride, was among the other chiefs beating up reporters and television crews, following everything that happens on the final day. Pete’s observations have already been published on Twitter.
Now we share them here:
In a 10-10-10, the team has easier training and goes through 10 offensive games, 10 defensive games and 10 minutes special teams. The first team’s offense is served by the second team’s defense and vice versa. So there’s only so much you can take away from these looks.

One of the team’s new experienced wideouts had a very strong day.
In that first period (excluding JuJu) RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire, WR Skyy Moore, WR Noah Gray, WR Justin Watson, RB Isiah Pacheco and TE Travis Kelce all saw goals. WRs Corey Coleman and Daurice Fountain came into play in the second period.

Peter details the hits (and near misses) in secondary school.
Defensively, CB Jaylen Watson, S Deon Bush, S Zayne Anderson, CB L’Jarius Sneed and S Juan Thornhill had pass separations. Rookie CB Trent McDuffie had two interceptions. DE Mike Danna and LB Nick Bolton had near picks.

It looks like Saturday it will be the 1st, 3rd and 4th quarterbacks.
Head coach Andy Reid said Mahomes and the starters would get the “first half” but it could be shorter, which I expect. Reid’s past preseason trends tell me that first teams get a streak in the second quarter before checking out.

and the 1st named his bearing stars.
Mahomes said the first order of business when he returns to Kansas City is to have his hair cut. Most of all he is looking forward to his 1 year old daughter. Reid said he was ready to sleep in his own bed and have a normal schedule. Ball is life for Big Red.
