According to the coroner, the actress died after the accident as a result of smoke inhalation and thermal injuries.
In the accident that killed Anne Heche on August 5 in west Los Angeles, her car crashed into a sidewalk before crashing into a house. After the impact, both the car and the house caught fire.
The 53-year-old actress was taken to the hospital in desperate conditions. She was declared brain dead and kept alive artificially for about a week until her organs were donated. The forensic medicine gave August 11 as the day of death.
Meanwhile, the death drove up the price of Anne Heche’s 2001 autobiography Call Me Crazy. Listed for $26 at the time, the book has now cost between $739 and $949 on Amazon. In the volume, the actress had recounted the trauma associated with childhood abuse, the difficulties and mental health struggles while in the spotlight, and her relationship with Ellen DeGeneres.
