A 17-year-old junior pilot sets course for a world record. Belgian-British Mack Rutherford landed at a small airport near London on Monday. At 17 years old, when he ends his journey this week in Sofia, Bulgaria, he wants to become the youngest person to fly alone around the world on a plane.
Briton Travis Ludlow, who completed his circumnavigation of the world at age 18, currently holds that record.
Sandstorms and closed airports
Mack Rutherford started his journey on March 23 – at the age of 16 – in Sofia, where the main sponsor of his adventure, ICDSoft, is based. Rutherford is traveling with an ultralight aircraft from the “Shark” series, which is among the fastest in the world.
