A successful Western with many humorous elements, in which John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara wage their special gender war. On the other hand, the presence of Yvonne de Carlo in the cast becomes an incentive. And while McLaglen is obviously not John Ford, he handles the story with ease.

James Wan plays with mise-en-scène the old-fashioned horror cinema way, and is able to create unhealthy imagery with minimal expressive elements. In his cinema, the right settings, lighting and camera movement fill some stunning images with content. Moving beyond the already mundane haunted house subgenre, Wan recreates the controversial and real-life marriage of the parapsychologists who make up Ed and Lorraine Warren to piece together a chilling tale shrouded in uneasiness.

“Anatomy of a Murder”

Master Otto Preminger adapts a mediocre novel by Robert Traver to turn it into a masterpiece of legal cinema: James Stewart is a lawyer defending an officer who killed the man who raped his wife. In this case, of course, everything is murkier than it seems. The spot-on staging alternates between tension and serenity, the magnetic cast burns on the screen and a great jazz score by Duke Ellington presides over the soundtrack.

After the great Eleven, John Carney reconnects his love of film and music in this glowing film about a young singer and a disgraced producer. Exuding life and sincerity, Begin Again’s imagery draws on the power of music to elevate the most mundane moments to transcendence. The sequence in which Ruffalo materializes in his mind the arrangements he would include in a nude song performed by Keira Knightley remains one of the most emotional cinematic outbursts of recent years.

‘The Godfather III’

Perhaps the best way to define the category of this third installment is to say that it is a great movie that is by far the worst of the three. No less than 16 years later, Francis Ford Coppola returned to The Godfather family saga, visiting the old age of a Michael Corleone obsessed with separating his family from the criminal world. It is about a character overcome by guilt complexes and an inability to maintain her affective relationships. Immersed in his corrupt universe, Michael cannot escape the evil that will seep into the bowels of the Vatican in this episode. The closing sequence, a spectacular climax that combines a chain of murders with Verdi’s music, remains one of the most emotional moments in 1990s cinema to this day.
