Shortly after 2 a.m. Sûreté du Québec (SQ) police officers attempted to intercept the SUV with a studded mat on eastbound Highway 40 at D’Iberville Street.

Despite punctured tires on his vehicle, the suspect restarted with a bang before colliding with a squad car, causing property damage.

The suspect in the Ontario SUV continued his escape through the streets of Montreal before turning near Highway 25 and Perras Boulevard.

The driver then abandoned the vehicle to continue the escape on foot through a wooded area, Sûreté du Québec spokesman Nicolas Scholtus said.

After research, the police were able to locate the suspect around 4 a.m. thanks to the cooperation of the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), who mobilized a dog handler.

He was met by police officers at the Montreal freeway station, Agent Scholtus added, without specifying whether or not the SUV was reported stolen.
