Gustavo Petro (Presidency) and Francia Márquez (Vice-President) did a tour this weekend entitled The Four Cardinal Points with senators and representatives of the Chamber elected on March 13th.

On Friday they began the journey through Nazareth, in Alta Guajira, the northernmost point of the country, with a population of more than 190,000 inhabitants and the majority of the Wayúu people.

Then they continued through Puerto Carreño, capital of the department of Vichada, to the east; and later they set out for Leticia, in southern Colombia, beside the Amazon and on the borders of Brazil and Peru.

The tour, which marks the start of the presidential campaign, ended today in Tumaco, in the Nariño department in the far west of the country.

Throughout the tour, Petro and France presented their government proposals, if they won the May elections, they listened to the local problems of the residents, to whom they expressed their commitment to bring about change in this nation.

At each stop, thousands of people attended the campaign rally, where they expressed their support for winning the first round.

More than 6,500 kilometers have been traveled through the disadvantaged areas of Colombia during the various governments.

“From the lands of oblivion we want to change Colombia. What we propose is to change for life. That life is the central axis of public order in Colombia,” Petro said in a spot on the tour.

The change is that the forgotten territory is no longer forgotten, that people are no longer excluded, that the immense inequality in Colombian society is no longer inequality, emphasized Petro.

On May 29, the presidential election will be held, which will elect the country’s president and vice-president for the period 2022-2026.

The winning formula must receive half plus one of the total valid votes, otherwise a second round between the two candidates with the highest number of votes will take place on June 19, 2022 and whoever receives the victory will reign for a period of four years without right of re-election.
