In France, two teenagers are on trial for the alleged murder of Alisha Khalid, then 14, since Monday. The boy and girl were 15 years old at the time of the crime, in March 2021. If convicted, they face up to 20 years in prison. The hearing will take place behind closed doors in a juvenile court in Pontoise.

The 2021 case shocked many people in France. Alisha was initially friends with the two classmates from a vocational school in the Parisian suburb of Argenteuil. Later, their relations deteriorated due to jealousy. Her phone had been stolen two weeks before the crime, and pictures of her in her underwear were shared via the Snapchat app.
According to the prosecutor, on March 8, 2021, the boy and girl lured Alisha to a remote meeting place under a bridge over the Seine and beat her there. The two then threw the victim from the base of a bridge pillar into the Seine, about seven meters deep. Alisha drowned. Shortly afterward, her body was recovered from the Seine by the police in Argenteuil.
No regrets
According to the prosecutor’s report, the two youths told the boy’s mother that they had assaulted a girl. So they went into hiding with friends, where the police arrested them that night. According to the prosecutor, the two showed no remorse during interrogation.
It was the boy’s mother who called the police. She initially went to the place indicated by her son. There she found signs that there must have been a fight between the teenagers. Then she found a glove and a lock of hair on the bank of the river. When she returned home, her son and his girlfriend were already gone.
