To save the galaxy, Rocket Raccoon and Groot invite a bunch of tourists to help the Guardians in Walt Disney World’s latest rollercoaster adventure. And we now know it’s coming soon: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind opens at EPCOT on May 27 as part of Disney World’s 50th Anniversary.

The premise surrounding the attraction is that EPCOT is home to the Wonders of Xandar Pavilion on Earth, its first Otherworld center when struck by a time-altering threat. Luckily, a distress signal reaches the Guardians of the Galaxy aboard the Benetar, Nova Corps friends (and, you know, ex-criminals). With Star-Lord asleep at the wheel, the mission should go perfectly smoothly, and Rocket decides to lead the prosecution on a side trip to Disney World on a Space Coaster adventure.

“This is an SOS from Nova Corps… Our outpost on Earth’s EPCOT is in peril!”

And yes, we re-watched this ad for clues as to what to expect. We love the tone, and the clever PG body horror of what it looks like when time tears you apart is particularly appealing. Hopefully that doesn’t really happen to us on the ride, which is touted as “family friendly” – and hopefully a little more tame than the tumbling tower in Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout, which I (a Guardians fan) rode twice for its fun Watching scenes even though I felt like I was dying in between. (What we do for our fandoms, eh?)

With this new look at the coaster now out in the world, producer Wes Lagatolla tweeted some behind-the-scenes details.

While we’re expecting a new curated “Awesome Mix” for this ride, given that one was created for Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout at Disney California Adventure, we’re also wondering if Rocket will fix the tape shown in the ad to include some familiar tunes to play. Hopefully James Gunn will tweet some fun details soon.

Until then, we’ll keep an eye out for Easter eggs. Here are a few that not only include nods to Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy films, but also pay homage to Walt Disney World and the building that houses the new attraction:

As Gunn confirmed on Twitter last year, he and Marvel Studios worked on footage for the ride last fall while production for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, due out in 2023, and the Holiday Special (coming to Disney+ this winter target).
