Jared Leto is notorious for his wild approach to acting, and apparently that didn’t change much when he made Morbius. In a new interview with Uproxx, director Daniel Espinosa confirmed rumors that Leto’s process involved limping to the bathroom on crutches to stay in character.
When asked about rumors about Leto’s long toilet trips during the interview, Espinosa replied with a simple “yes”. It referenced reports that Leto was frequently stumbling to and from the bathroom with crutches, resulting in extended production downtime.

In Morbius, Leto plays Michael Morbius, who suffers from a rare blood disorder that is ravaging his body. Because of this, the character needs crutches to get around – something Leto should carry over to his bathroom breaks.
This resulted in trips to the restroom taking up to 45 minutes, prompting the production team to strike a deal with him that included round-trip wheelchair transport. But despite the inconvenience, Espinosa seems to have felt Leto’s involvement was only part of the job.
“I think what Jared thinks, what Jared thinks, is that he kind of needed the pain of those moves, even when he was playing regular Michael Morbius, because he’s had that pain his whole life,” Espinosa said. “Even though he’s alive and strong, there has to be a difference. Hey man, it’s people’s processes.”
“All actors believe in process,” he continued. “And you as a director support everything that makes it the best it can be.”
Of course, this isn’t the first time Leto has been accused of odd methodological behavior on the set of his films. While filming his role as the Joker in Suicide Squad, the actor was reportedly involved in some incredibly crazy acts, including sending his castmates wildly inappropriate items like condoms, anal beads and even a dead pig.
Unfortunately for Espinosa and Leto, the actor’s involvement in the character of Michael Morbius didn’t result in a particularly well-received film. Morbius currently ranks at a meager 16% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the second-lowest-rated Marvel film after the Fantastic Four reboot.
