As long as you make the victims experience their trauma for fun. It’s the same with serial killer movies. Everything is so strange and disrespectful. I will not watch this mess https://t.co/uNCkOOE6ah

However, on Wednesday night – before the release of the penultimate episode of Pam and Tommy – the woman at the center of the incident finally issued a statement promising to “tell the true story.”

In a handwritten note uploaded to her Instagram account, Pam appears to be formally challenging Hulu’s portrayal of her experience and annoying an upcoming Netflix documentary in which she tells the truth about her story.

“In the 1990s, there was an unfair cultural response. It bothered me then. And I think the chance to tell the story and make people see and understand how it’s nobody’s business was not right for anyone, “she added.

Even before the first episode of Pam and Tommy aired, social media was flooded with criticism from people who were outraged by the apparent irony of retelling the unconsensual distribution of a sex tape without the consent of the people it portrays.

Many felt like history was repeating itself and called on the show’s creators to seemingly try to “profit” from the couple’s exploitation for the second time.

However, the people behind Pam & Tommy said they hoped they would “do the right thing” from Pamela.

In the same interview with Variety, executive producer DV DeVincentis said they hope to shed new light on the patriarchal double standards that play in the public eye of the tape, in which Tommy is elevated to sex symbol status while Pam is embarrassed and villainous. .

“With Pamela Anderson, what I always come back to is this [she and Tommy] they were doing exactly the same thing. And filmed doing exactly the same thing together, “said DeVincentis.

“One of them was embarrassed and practically kicked out of business and became a frivolous person,” they said of Pamela’s experience. “The other got a new act and became this sex god. And the only difference between these two people [was] their gender. It is.”

Although facing much wider criticism, some praised the show for highlighting this particular inequality in its retelling. However, we look forward to hearing Pamela’s story when her documentary is released later.
