[VIRAL] Vicente Fernández won a Grammy and the presenter said: ‘He couldn’t come’

The 64th edition of the Grammys took place in Las Vegas yesterday. Everything seemed to be going well until an error occurred that went viral on social media.

The person responsible for announcing the nominees and winner in the Best Regional Mexican and Tejano Album category was country singer Jimmie Allen. All was going well until he announced the winner: Vicente Fernández, the late Mexican singer-songwriter.

Jimmi assured that El Charro de Huentitán had not arrived. “He couldn’t come,” the singer said, concluding by saying he was sorry the singer couldn’t have come to the gala to collect his award. “(Fernández) didn’t come either, but congratulations. It’s a great honor even if you couldn’t be there today,” he said.

As expected, this comment caused an awkward silence from some of those in attendance – especially Latinos – while creating a whirlwind of criticism, memes and ridicule on social media due to the unfortunate comment.
