French communists rule out participation in Macron’s initiative

Paris, September 7 (Prensa Latina) The national secretary of the French Communist Party (PCF), Fabien Roussel, today barred participation in the National Refoundation Council, an initiative that President Emmanuel Macron will launch tomorrow to address the country’s challenges .

Responding to the head of state’s invitation for political forces to get involved in the project, the MP and former presidential candidate said the council wanted to avoid a parliament in which the ruling party no longer had an absolute majority.

For Roussel, there is an urgent need for the French people to regain their full sovereignty, which he says means restoring real powers to the National Assembly, the Senate and the Economic, Social and Environmental Councils and respecting these institutions.

Macron promotes the National Refoundation Council as a solution to challenges among which climate change and the quality of education and health stand out.

According to the PCF leader, the communists will always be open to a democratic debate based on the interests of the country.

We believe that France is living through extremely dangerous times, with crises with dramatic consequences that affect the world and Europe, which require a real democratic revolution that brings together all political, social, economic, cultural and scientific actors around common goals, stressed.

Roussel reiterated that the National Refoundation Council is not moving in this direction, a criterion defended by other political, trade union and social organizations who have ruled out participating in the initiative.

We confirm that the project you (Macron) are inscribing your new five-year term in, far from stopping them, will rather worsen the deep democratic crisis tearing the country apart, he stressed.
