Russia is requesting an update from the International Atomic Energy Agency after the release of its report on the situation at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine. “There is a need for further clarifications as the report contains a number of question marks,” Sergey Lavrov, head of Russia’s diplomacy, told Russia’s Interfax agency on Wednesday, September 7.
A few hours earlier, the Russian ambassador to the UN had particularly regretted that the IAEA in its report had still not identified the Ukrainian armed forces as those who had bombed the Zaporijjia power plant. Russian diplomatic spokeswoman Maria Zakharova denounces Western “pressure” on the IAEA.
“It’s obvious that the West has always been pushing [sur l’AIEA] and he won’t stop.”

The director of Russia’s nuclear giant Rosatom, Alexei Likhachev, said on Wednesday that Moscow would “do its best in exclusive contact with the IAEA to ensure the safe operation of the plant”.
