In Austria, the number of influenza cases continues to rise. According to the Virology Center at MedUni Vienna, there were already 43 cases of flu in the penultimate 12th week of the year, against 25 in the week before the illnesses recorded in Austria. In addition, six dual corona and influenza infections have been detected so far.
There was less activity only in the federal states of Burgenland, Salzburg and Vorarlberg. 14 out of 39 European countries have reported widespread influenza virus activity. These include Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, France, Georgia, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Slovenia and Scotland.
Due to the pandemic, the start of flu activity was long delayed and didn’t really start until the end of March. The reason may have been the partial elimination of the mask requirement. Virologists explained that the flu had not yet reached epidemic level.
