Amy Schumer stopped by “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen” on Wednesday night, where she shared what was on her mind after Will Smith’s infamous slap in the face to Chris Rock at the Oscars.
Schumer was one of three presenters at this year’s Academy Awards, where Smith won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in King Richard and received a standing ovation after the slap heard and seen around the world.
Schumer shared, “I’m just saying I was backstage and I knew I had to get out. I was the only moderator, so to speak, who went out alone afterwards. It really felt like the situation room of comedy.”
Schumer further explained her shocked reaction to the unexpected moment when she added, “We were all just looking at the monitor. And then he won – what will I do when I go out there.”
During a standup routine the following weekend, Schumer explained that the incident was “exciting” and that Smith’s slap “says so much about toxic masculinity.” For now, though, Schumer handled it like a pro, adding that the moment “really changed the air in the room.”
Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen is broadcast from Sunday to Thursday Bravo.
