COLLEGE STATION – The father and mother of the alleged victim of an attack on former Texas A&M successor Demmond Demas were arrested Thursday afternoon by university police on charges of assault, according to Lt. Bobby Richardson of the A&M Police Department.
The father attacked Demas and the mother attacked a relative of Demas before a scheduled hearing on campus for Demas, according to Richardson, and there were no serious injuries. The father and mother were taken to the Brazos County Jail.
Demas was arrested on Wednesday on charges of domestic violence on Saturday, according to a statement of probable cause received from the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the statement, the alleged victim, who was Demas’ girlfriend, “reported that the defendant pushed his head against the wall. Then she bit him on the shoulder. (She) reported that the defendant then grabbed her and threw her off the bed onto the floor, causing her upper front teeth to pass through her lower lip.
“The injury caused bleeding, loose teeth, swelling and a hole in the lower lip. (She) stated that she and the defendant had been in an intimate relationship for a year. ”
The statement added that Demas “confessed to initiating the verbal quarrel” and “when he became physically, he brought her down,” causing her to bite her lip.
A&M athletics responded on Wednesday that Demas had been expelled from the university and had not been on the football program since early March. Demas, who surrendered on Wednesday, issued a $ 5,000 bail later in the day and was released.
An insider from the university said that Demas was removed from A&M last week because he did not attend class and the removal was not related to the alleged quarrel on Saturday. Houston’s attorney, Tony Busby, confirmed Wednesday night that he represents Demas.
