More billions for EU states for refugees from Ukraine

The EU supports States hosting refugees from Ukraine with billions more. On Thursday, in Strasbourg, the EU Parliament approved a proposal by the EU Commission according to which the payment of 3.4 billion euros of the so-called React-EU package, which is actually intended to deal with the corona crisis. Since the beginning of the war, more than 4.3 million Ukrainians have left their homeland.

Ukraine’s neighbors – namely Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia – should benefit in particular from the money, as well as the countries where so many refugees arrived in the first month of the war that represented more than one percent of their national population. . These are Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and Estonia. As EU states have already approved the proposal, they only need to formally confirm it again after parliamentary approval.

According to the UN, more than 4.3 million of the more than 44 million Ukrainians have left the country since the start of the Russian war in Ukraine on February 24.
