Corona breach? Investigations against Lauterbach

Berlin’s Mitte district health department is investigating German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach for a possible violation of the country’s corona isolation regulations.

A district spokesperson told the AFP news agency on Friday that a total of five reports against Lauterbach had been received by the doctor or health department. These will now be pursued. First, the “world” reported online.

So far no response from the minister

The health department recently contacted the health minister’s office and asked for an opinion on the allegations, the spokesperson said. However, no response has yet been received. Lauterbach had tested positive for the corona virus on August 4, so he temporarily fulfilled his official duties from home isolation. On Twitter, the vaccinated quadruple wrote first about “mild” and then about “stronger-than-expected symptoms”.

Negative but not very suitable

After six days, on August 10, Lauterbach again attended a cabinet meeting. The day before, he tweeted that things were slowly improving – and further wrote: “Hopefully recovery is complete soon.” He told ARD the same day that he was negative again, but he didn’t feel very well. The Corona Ordinance of the State of Berlin only provides for the premature termination of the ten-day isolation requirement if the infected person has been asymptomatic for at least 48 hours.

Case closed for ministry

A Ministry of Health spokesperson said, on request, that the Department of Health had contacted the Ministry weeks ago. At that time, the office received the same information as the public about the minister’s isolation period and test results. Lauterbach took a PCR test five working days after it was discovered he was infected. The CT value of the test was well above 30 and therefore indicated that he was no longer infectious at this point.

Before leaving isolation on August 10, three rapid tests came back negative and Lauterbach had been asymptomatic for more than 48 hours. “Since the minister wanted to make sure he was no longer contagious,” he also confirmed the rapid tests with a PCR test. “According to our information, the case of the secretary of health is closed,” said the BMG.
