The Cincinnati Bengals and Dallas Cowboys both lost their season openers last Sunday and will be looking to face off again this week. This duel lost some of its appeal with Dak Prescott’s thumb injury, but there’s still a lot to look forward to in this interconference match.
One duel to watch is Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase versus Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs. Both players are considered two of the best in their respective positions and will have their first chance to face off at this level. Chase and Diggs have both played in the SEC, and when asked about Diggs as a corner this week, Chase said the following:
“He’s an athlete. He has great ball skills in the air. He’s super fast,” Chase said of The Dallas Morning News. “He doesn’t put too much stock in tech sound though. He’s a little hit or miss. He’s either all in it or he’s not in it at all. But he’s definitely a great athlete.”
The Bengals star both complimented Diggs and maybe fired a few shots at him too. Diggs, himself a former wideout, has had a career year in which he recorded 52 combined tackles, 21 passes defended and 11 interceptions as the league leader — the most in a single season since Cowboys rookie Everson Walls in 1981. Diggs is undoubtedly an athletic one Defense attorneys, but as Chase said, he’s strayed once or twice in reporting — which actually led to him making the decision to delete his Twitter last month.
Diggs will have a chance to make Chase eat his words this weekend. Chase caught 10 passes for 129 yards and a touchdown in the season-opening loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, but Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow said Cincy wanted to put the ball even further forward for him.
