First the prisoners are interrogated then they shoot

“First the prisoners are interrogated, then they shoot”

The use of unencrypted radios and easily identifiable SIM cards: “Destroy all those Ukrainians”

FROM OUR SEND

LOZOVA (KHARKIV) Russian soldiers often use unencrypted radios to communicate with each other and ordinary cell phones to talk to their homes. It was easy for Western intelligence services to intercept tactical orders and transmit them to the Ukrainians in real time. It was even easier for the country’s phone companies to keep track of Sims calling Russian numbers. The result is a terrifying picture of their situation as victims and executioners of the war.

man on a bicycle

The German secret services Bnd managed to link their radio interceptions to the video recorded by a drone that had already rocked the world. Time and geolocation match. The footage shows a tank aiming and hitting a civilian moving through the rubble of the village. His hands are on the handlebars, he doesn’t seem to be able to harm the tank. Nonetheless, a cruel and unjustified execution emerges from the silent blackandwhite images.

The German interception makes this recording even more absurd: a few seconds or minutes after the time marked on the drone film, a soldier euphorically tells a colleague at the same point: “We shot a cyclist”. As if it were a successful shoot.

Deadly Interrogations

The German interceptions viewed by Der Spiegel appear to show a modus operandi in which the massacres one imagines when looking at the corpses of Bucha and Borodyanka are by no means the result of insane shrapnel or runaway detachments. From the accents and names of the intercepted soldiers it is clear that after the capture by very young soldiers older elements also arrived, certainly Chechens and maybe even mercenaries from the Wagner group. Atrocities are described in soldier talk as games being carried out or trivial orders. The violence that sows terror is thus turned into a weapon of war to blunt the will of the population and the military to resist. The rule, explained from soldier to soldier, was: “First interrogate the prisoners, then shoot them.”

Gasoline for the rape

From the cellphones of Russian soldiers, through the Ukrainian secret service, emerge stories about a human ugliness that leaves dismay. A soldier from the proRussian proindependence militia is on the phone with his partner, who appears to be living in an area occupied by Moscow troops. He speaks Russian, she replies, crying, Ukrainian.
“Serghey, you cannot understand what is happening here. The soldiers kill, shoot, even rape children ».
“Are you saying it from hearsay or because you’ve seen it?”
“I didn’t want to tell you, but I can’t shut up anymore. When they arrived we opened the door and gave them bread and salami. But at night they came back with cans of petrol. We’ll give them to you in exchange for the two girls. You understand? They were 13 and 15 years old.”
“But who did such a thing?”
“I don’t know. They had the red sash ».

medals and blood

Russians often contemptuously refer to Ukrainians as “kholki”. It is a reference to the folkloric image of the old Cossacks with mustaches and forelocks on shaved heads. A soldier appears to be calling his wife. Both use one swear word after the other, which is left to the imagination here.
“These Khokli make us suffer.”
“I’m afraid, look, I’ve already been to the funerals of three of your conscripts. Do not be fooled “.
“Do you want to tell me? The Commander said we deserve the medal but I told him to keep it and send me home.
“But why don’t you destroy all those Khokli?”
“Do you think it’s easy? This isn’t a movie at all. I haven’t seen a Ukrainian soldier since I’ve been here. We shoot the cannon shots. It’s not easy to catch them.”

200 load

In military jargon, the Russians have referred to casualties as “Cargo 200” and wounded as “Cargo 300” since Soviet times. In this always vulgar interception, a soldier appears to be speaking to his partner.
“We were 80 and we were 13. I’ve been loading bodies for days. Load 200 and load 300 ».
“But are you careful?”
“I lived underground for two weeks. I’m afraid of every sound I hear. When I come back, when I come back, I think I should ask to go to the cemetery to work. I’m used to loading 200 and at least it’s quiet. Look, I don’t want to hear the fireworks on New Year’s Eve. I think I’ll lock myself in the basement.”

Hurry to kill

He calls his wife.
“I heard from mom and she told me about the baby. Is it true that you made a collection for the soldiers at the front at school?”.
“Yes, it’s true, but not only money, also objects, food, gifts”.
“The little girl prepared some gloves for me, Mom told me.”
“Did he also explain to you what he wrote on the note?”
“Not what?”.
“Dad, you have to hurry up and kill all the Ukrainians so you can get home soon.”
The two parents laugh.

The dog at dinner

A soldier is on the phone with his father. Both have an accent from the Far Eastern regions of the Russian Federation. They may have come from Buryatia and Carcassia on the border with China. In these steppes, the Turkmen Molossians, the Alabai, are widespread dogs, useful to defend the herds and houses from wolves.
“Have you got anything to eat? are you ok ”
“Yes, yes, we’re fine. We have everything. In fact, yesterday we also ate an alabai ».
“Really? An Alaba? It was good?”.
“And how. And I also found a surprise for my mother and an iPad for my wife”.
