Tom Hiddleston will star in Apple’s limited series The White Darkness, Variety has learned.
The series is based on the non-fiction book of the same name by David Grann. It is inspired by the true life account of Henry Worsley (Hiddleston), a devoted husband and father, a former soldier, a man of great honor and sacrifice, but also a man deeply obsessed with adventure and embarking on an epic journey through Antarctica manifests foot.
Soo Hugh, who most recently created and hosted the Apple series Pachinko, will serve as writer, executive producer and co-showrunner on The White Darkness. Mark Heyman will be executive producer and co-showrun. Pachinko is executive produced by Theresa Kang-Lowe and Caroline Garity of Blue Marble Pictures. Apple Studios and UCP will produce together. Blue Marble is currently in a comprehensive deal with Apple.
This will be the second Apple series Hiddleston has starred in to date. He will next be seen in Apple drama The Essex Serpent opposite Claire Danes, which is set to debut in May. Hiddleston is best known for his role as Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in which he has starred in several films and directed the Disney Plus spinoff series Loki, which is currently preparing for its second season. Hiddleston previously received an Emmy nomination in 2016 for his starring role in the limited series The Night Manager.
He is represented by Hamilton Hodell, WME and JSSK. Hugh is repeated by WME and McKuin Frankel. Heyman is repeated by UTA. Grann is represented by CAA in association with The Robbins Office.
