In the chaos following the Cardinals’ fumbling return for a touchdown to win the game, video captured by CNN affiliate KPNX sports host Cameron Cox appears to show a viewer punch at Arizona quarterback Kyler Murray in the head, while Murray celebrated with spectators in the stands.
Murray then appears to try to confront the man but is held back by his teammates.
It’s unclear if the man intended to make contact with Murray in this way as it was a hectic scene in the end zone with many people trying to touch Murray.
Now police are investigating “a battery call alleging that a spectator at the stadium punched a professional soccer player,” a Las Vegas police spokesman told CNN.
A criminal report has been filed and an investigation is ongoing. The suspect has not yet been identified, police said.
CNN has reached out to the Cardinals and the Raiders.
Murray is in his fourth season in the NFL. He was selected to the Pro Bowl for the past two seasons and was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2019.
He has become one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the league. In his three seasons in the NFL, he threw for 11,480 yards and 70 touchdowns and ran for 1,786 yards and 20 touchdowns.
