The Forecasting Center of the Cuban Meteorological Institute (INSMET) reported this Friday that tropical depression nine of the current cyclone season has formed in the southeastern Caribbean Sea.

The meteorological unit noted that “in the early hours of Friday morning, the area of low pressure that passed through the southeastern Caribbean Sea gained organization and became tropical depression nine of the current cyclone season.”
The system has maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h with higher gusts, a central pressure of 1006 HectoPascals, and is moving west-northwest at 22 km/h.
The INSMET report specified that “at noon, the central region of the tropical depression was located at latitudes 14.3ºN and 70.3ºW, a position that places it 800 kilometers east-southeast of Kingston, Jamaica.”
Similarly, it is forecast to “continue at a similar trajectory and speed of movement for the next 12 to 24 hours. Movement west to west-northwest is expected by Saturday.”
However, it is expected to “turn northwest on Sunday, approaching the Cayman Islands, gaining organization and intensity, becoming a tropical storm in the next few hours and a hurricane on Sunday.”
For its part, the National Hurricane Center in Miami, USA, reported the possibility of heavy rain and winds for that day in certain regions of Venezuela, Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao and Colombia.
