The Blainville-Boisbriand Armada bounced back after a difficult start to defeat the Val-d’Or Foreurs 4-2 at the Sports Rousseau Center of Excellence on Friday.
The North Shore team celebrated victory in their first game of the campaign. However, an Alexandre Doucet goal after just 30 seconds of play in the first period thwarted Bruce Richardson’s men.
Antoine Roy and Justin Boisselle both threaded the needle in the first third and gave their team the lead. The latter was also an accomplice to Xavier Sarrasin’s winning net and Mikaël Denis’ insurance goal, shot into an empty goal.
Nathan Brisson had brought the two teams back to first place midway through the third period.
Nicholas Sheehan stopped 26 of the 28 opposing attempts between the Armada posts. His opposite number, William Blackburn, did well in the loss with 31 saves from 34 shots.
The Uncomplicated Huskies in “Shawi”
At Center Gervais Auto, Daniil Bourash scored twice in the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies’ 6-3 win over the Shawinigan Cataractes.
The visitors couldn’t have asked for a better opening game of the season. On the street, they held their own, duping Rémi Delafontaine five times in 28 shots.
Bourash, a native of Belarus, played a pivotal role in his side’s victory by scoring the opening goal and the winner. Defenseman Dyllan Gill, author of the Huskies’ second success, also stood out by ending the game with a +5 margin.
While William Veillette leveled the game with his second of the season, the Abitibi team responded with three straight goals at the end of the first period.
Alexis Beaulac cut the lead to three with just under seven minutes remaining, but Edouard Cournoyar pinned the Cats’ coffin by pushing the puck into an empty net.
Louis-Philippe Fontaine and Jakub Hujer completed the classification for the huskies. Goalkeeper Thomas Couture didn’t shine in front of the winning cage, but his 19 saves allowed him to sign his first win of the season.
Elsewhere in the QMJHL
At the Center Marcel Dionne, Thomas Belgrade (two goals) and Maxime Pellerin (one goal, two assists) guided the Victoriaville Tigres to a 5-1 win over the Drummondville Voltigeurs.
At the Palais des Sports Léopold-Drolet, center Justin Gill scored his first two wins of the season as Sherbrooke Phoenix defeated Gatineau Olympiques 3-1.
